Select Villas is proud to have sponsored the recent Masters Competition 2024 at Benitachell Bowls Club, an exciting event that brought together the best of the local bowls community for four days of competitive play. This year’s tournament was full of energy, camaraderie, and some challenging weather, making it a memorable event for all involved.

A Competitive Start Amidst Unpredictable Weather

The Masters 2024 saw 16 teams from various clubs across the region compete for the prestigious title. Some of the teams including those from Greenlands and Indalo Bowls Clubs travelled from as far as the south of Alicante to join the tournament, demonstrating this competition’s wide appeal. Despite a strong start, the tournament faced some interruptions as torrential rain on Monday and Wednesday afternoon forced the matches to be temporarily abandoned.

However, in true sporting spirit, the sun returned, and the competitors were undeterred, ready to resume play with renewed vigour. Fortunately, the weather held up for most of the final day, allowing the tournament to reach its exciting conclusion.

Celebrating the Winners

At the end of the four-day event, the competitive spirit and skill of the players were celebrated with Angie from Select Villas having the honour of presenting the winners with their well-deserved prizes. The top prize, the coveted trophy cup, was awarded to the overall winning team, “Useful Mix.” A huge congratulations to Chris Salter, Jean McLaughlin, Veila Wood, Richard Potts, and Trefor Evans, who played with determination and teamwork to take home the title.

The day concluded with drinks, nibbles, and lots of laughter, with everyone enjoying the celebratory atmosphere. It was a wonderful way to round off an exciting tournament and a great reminder of the vibrant and friendly community spirit that bowls brings to the area.

Benitachell Bowls Club: A Hub for Bowlers on the Costa Blanca

For those interested in getting involved in bowls, Benitachell Bowls Club (BBC), located in Camino de la Torreta just outside the village of Benitachell, is a fantastic place to start. Offering panoramic views of the “Montgo,” the club is the only independent club on the Costa Blanca owned and run by its members through a Board of Directors and a Club Captain. Established in 1988, BBC has grown to become a well-respected club with over 100 members and is renowned for having one of the best bowling surfaces in Spain.

The club is more than just a place to play bowls; it’s a community hub where new friendships are made, and both mind and body stay active. The clubhouse is always buzzing with activity before and after matches, and regular social evenings are organised for members to enjoy. For newcomers to the sport, the club offers a free introductory course with a club instructor consisting of three sessions. After the course, you can decide if you’d like to join, and the club even loans you a set of bowls to start with.

For those looking to improve their game, experienced coaches are available for one-to-one sessions and run improver’s courses from time to time. The team at Select Villas were recently invited along and given a free lesson by a very patient Trefor Evans, former Vice-President, and we all had such fun and very much looking forward to our next trial.
